Observing callus formations or overgrowths of injured, diseased areas on trunks and branches - stretch marks on tree bark, cracks, tree beads, outgrowths and tree cancer - I imitate such bodies by greatly simplifying and calming their form and aestheticizing them, giving them an inherent glow.

Pipe bend [180°; d=88.9mm]
The use of untreated virgin wool supports the glow inherent in the bodies and provides a perceptible sense of calm and warmth [inspiration from Biennale 23, Pavilion Slovenia].
The virgin wool is felted over transparent 3D prints [transparent PETG], which are applied at minimal printing speed and with a large layer height. This makes the bodies more glassy and the layers towards the front more light-conducting.

Hannes Herbst + Robert Freitag
We are designers trained in interior architecture, combining academic research with professional practice. Our studio brings together the perspectives of a graduated interior architect and an interior architecture student from the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle.
As studio herbst.freitag, based at Pittlerwerke Leipzig, we work on objects and spatial concepts informed by material-driven design and industrial production methods. Our practice focuses on the deliberate articulation of construction and materiality, treating functional elements as integral components of spatial and formal expression.
Our functional objects and interventions are intended to respond to spaces, to have the ability to structure and invite.
